And so, for the first time in NBA history, Las Vegas served as the backdrop for All-Star Weekend.

While some now look back on the event with mixed emotions because of off-the-court issues, the NBA’s brightest stars did their part to deliver another entertaining game on Feb. 18, 2007. Per usual, a driving force for that was Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

Behind 39 points in the first quarter and 40 points in the second, the Western Conference All-Stars held a 79-59 lead over the East at halftime. While the East attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, it proved futile.

The West set a record with 69 field goals and 52 assists in their 153-132 blowout victory. Bryant scored a game-high 31 points, to go along with five rebounds, six assists and six steals.

The performance earned him MVP honors, which he previously won at the 2002 All-Star Game. While Bryant was unceremoniously booed in his hometown of Philadelphia, fans in Las Vegas were much more delighted at him taking home the game’s top award.

En route to being named MVP, Bryant moved from 11th to 10th place on the all-time All-Star scoring list.

Kobe Bryant ranks second in All-Star Game scoring

By the end of his career, Kobe Bryant would wind up with the most points scoring in an All-Star Game at 290 although he was eventually passed by LeBron James to top the list.

Apple Immersive Puts Lakers Fans Courtside Through Spectrum Front Row https://lakersnation.com/apple-immersive-lakers-courtside-spectrum-front-row-vision-pro/ Sun, 08 Feb 2026 00:00:33 +0000 https://lakersnation.com/?p=258614 Apple and Spectrum SportsNet partnered to bring select Los Angeles Lakers games in Apple Immersive this season after more than one year of development.

For the Lakers game in Apple Immersive, the URSA Cine Immersive Live cameras produce 8K, 3D video with a 180-degree view. One of the cameras is positioned at center court, allowing the viewer to take in the game as if being seated courtside at Crypto.com Arena.

That angle makes for an opportunity to do some celebrity watching if so inclined. Klutch Sports Group founder Rich Paul and former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers were easy to spot taking in the action on Thursday night.

Additional camera angles supported through Apple Immersive are the behind the baskets, which gives fans a chance to take in the action along the baseline in an otherwise unobtainable perspective and proximity to the court.

Within the scope of the fully immersive experience is being able to look up at the main scoreboard and ribbon boards that line the arena.

There are cuts relative to the on-court action, such as switching to under the basket area as Luka Doncic pushes the ball up the court or LeBron James drives for a slam dunk.

One of the more awe-inspiring elements is being placed in the tunnel as players take the court and head to the locker room during timeouts.

Spatial audio allows for the viewer to hear all the sights and sounds during a game, from sneakers squeaking on the court to celebrations or complaints to officials. Further enhancing the experience is a dedicated broadcast through Spectrum Front Row with play-by-play man Mark Rogondino and analyst Danny Green.

They were accompanied by reporter Stephen Nelson for the first Lakers Immersive broadcast, and Allie LaForce handled sideline duties for Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Rogondino seamlessly directs viewers to features specific to the Apple Vision Pro experience. One being the ability to easily look down for a scoreboard that has the score, quarter, time and timeouts remaining.

Although the Vision Pro headset creates a feeling of being in the arena, there are built-in safety features such as the picture closing if standing up or moving around. Similarly, looking at wherever your iPhone is located will cut a bubble-like shape into the picture to view.

If set up to unlock with Vision Pro, it’s also possible to text on your phone via a pass-through camera.

Simply told, watching the Lakers play on the Apple Vision Pro headset via Spectrum Front Row puts fans inside the arena from the comfort of their own home through seven different camera angles.

Schedule of Lakers games in Apple Immersive

Friday, Feb. 20: Clippers vs. Lakers
Thursday, March 5: Lakers vs. Nuggets
Tuesday, March 10: Timberwolves vs. Lakers
Monday, March 30: Wizards vs. Lakers

This Day In Lakers History: Phil Jackson Passes Pat Riley For Most Coaching Wins In Franchise History https://lakersnation.com/this-day-lakers-history-phil-jackson-most-wins-franchise-passes-pat-riley/ Tue, 03 Feb 2026 14:00:01 +0000 https://s47052.p737.sites.pressdns.com/?p=180999 While the Los Angeles Lakers are often recognized and praised for the legendary players who have suited up for the franchise, they also boast a rich history in terms of head coaches. Chief among them are Pat Riley and Phil Jackson, who paths intersected on Feb. 3, 2010.

The Lakers hosted the then-Charlotte Bobcats in a game that saw Kobe Bryant play through a foot issue. He began the night less than 100 percent and had his injury aggravated when Lamar Odom stepped on Bryant’s foot in the second quarter.

Bryant didn’t score in the fourth and finished with just five points on 2-for-12 shooting. He added two rebounds, six assists and two steals in what was his first single-digit scoring game of the season.

Odom paced the Lakers with 19 points off the bench, to go along with seven rebounds. Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace each chipped in 14 points.

The Lakers gave up 30 points in the final 12 minutes but hung on for a 99-97 victory. The win was Jackson’s 534th with the Lakers, which passed Riley for most in franchise history.

Jackson is also the winningest coach in Chicago Bulls history, with 545 victories and six NBA titles in nine seasons. In 11 seasons over two separate stints with the Lakers, Jackson won 610 games and five championships.

Phil Jackson remains Lakers franchise leader

He remains the franchise leader in coaching wins, though his 67.6 winning percentage trails Riley’s 73.3 percent. Jackson ranks seventh all-time with 1,155 wins across his 20-year coaching career.

This Day In Lakers History: Wilt Chamberlain Scores 60 Points Against Cincinnati Royals https://lakersnation.com/this-day-lakers-history-wilt-chamberlain-scores-60-points-against-cincinnati-royals/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 13:00:15 +0000 https://s47052.p737.sites.pressdns.com/?p=180727 Wilt Chamberlain will forever be remembered for his NBA record 100 points in a single game, but there many other nights in which the big man was essentially unstoppable. One of which came Jan. 26, 1969, when Chamberlain led the Lakers to a 126-113 win over the Cincinnati Royals.

Chamberlain had a game-high 60 points, to go along with 21 rebounds. Somewhat remarkably, he was not the leading rebounder, as Jerry Lucas hit the glass to the tune of 24 boards.

Chamberlain made 22 of his 36 field goal attempts and went 16-for-24 from the free throw line. Prior to that point, his season high was 35 points. He scored 66 points nearly two weeks later.

The Lakers held a 31-28 lead over the Royals at the end of the first quarter and never trailed in the game over the next 36 minutes.

Los Angeles improved to 34-17, while the Royals dropped to 26-23.

Chamberlain went on to average 20.5 points and an NBA-best 21.1 rebounds per game. His 58.3 field goal percentage and 857 free throw attempts on the year were also tops in the league.

Wilt Chamberlain & Lakers lose in NBA Finals

The Lakers finished with a 55-27 record that season, good for first in the Western division, but came up short to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals in seven games.

This Day In Lakers History: Kobe Bryant Debuts Nike Zoom Kobe IV ‘MLK’ https://lakersnation.com/this-day-lakers-history-kobe-bryant-debuts-nike-zoom-kobe-iv-mlk-duel-lebron-james-cavaliers/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 14:00:38 +0000 https://s47052.p737.sites.pressdns.com/?p=180320 The NBA annually does their part to pay their respects on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and they’re often joined by branding partners Nike and Adidas, among others. On Jan. 19, 2009, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in a highly-anticipated matchup.

The Lakers were coming a season that ended in a disappointing loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. The Cavaliers themselves were title contenders, and both teams entered the night with 31 wins and single-digit losses.

At the time, Bryant and James represented two of Nike’s standout pillars. As such, Bryant was outfitted with what became one of his most recognizable sneakers in a long-running signature shoe line with Nike — the Zoom Kobe IV ‘MLK’ colorway.

A white-based model featured a purple toe box, gold swoosh, gold color and snakeskin detailing. The shoe was later released in limited quantities on May 8, 2009.

As for matters on the court, Bryant dislocated the ring finger on his right hand while diving for a loose ball a mere two minutes into the game. He of course returned, and proceeded to score
20 points, to go along with six rebounds and 12 assists in 41 minutes.

Bryant scored nine points as part of a Lakers 16-7 run to open the fourth quarter. James finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

While Bryant helped drive the engine, it was Pau Gasol (22 points and 12 rebounds) and the rest of the supporting cast that led the way in a Lakers 105-88 win. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and prevented the Lakers from suffering their first stretch of three consecutive losses that season.

LeBron James reflects on first matchup against Kobe Bryant

This wasn’t the first time that James and Bryant squared off as that came all the way back in 2004. Years after their playing careers were over, James reflected on that first matchup with Bryant.
