After losing Elton Brand for the season to a torn achilles, expect the Clippers to struggle greatly. All the additions they made this offseason will not matter, but will be important down the road; especially drafting Al Thornton. Thornton was taken 14th overall in the draft, and should be the starter replacing Elton Brand. Thornton has a great game, and can easily average in the high teens in points per game during his rookie season. He should be this team's leading scorer, and possibly rebounder too. The one thing Al needs to work on is his defense. Because he is undersized, like Brand, he will have to find a way to shut down his defenders. Elton Brand will be a great teacher for Thornton during his rookie season.
The Clippers also added Brevin Knight, to replace Shaun Livingston, who could return around the All-Star break after his horrible injury last season, as well as Ruben Patterson. These two veterans will be important to this team to help them keep their composure during the season. The Clippers will win about 30 games this season, but only because of Sam Cassell, Cuttino Mobley, Corey Maggette and Chris Kaman, who have all been a part of the success in Los Angeles over the past two seasons.
