The Los Angeles Lakers keep playing well at home, but have been anything but impressive on the road.
Beginning a stretch that includes 11 of 14 games away from Staples Center, Los Angeles hopes to begin turning around its poor road record by knocking off the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
The Lakers (25-13) are 7-9 away from home this season - the fewest road victories of any Western Conference team with a winning record. They have lost three of their last four road games, including defeats to last-place teams Memphis and Charlotte, and a miserable 102-77 loss at Houston last Wednesday.
Los Angeles is opening a three-game road trip that includes back-to-back games against two of the Western Conference's top teams. One day after facing the Spurs (27-12), the Lakers visit the owners of the league's best record when they meet the Dallas Mavericks. The road trip ends Saturday against New Orleans.
They'll return to Staples Center for three straight games before opening a season-high eight-game road trip.
The team enters Wednesday's contest with a boost of confidence following consecutive wins, including a 124-118 overtime victory over the Miami Heat on Monday. It was the Lakers' fifth straight win at home, where they are 18-4 this season.
Brian Cook scored 25 points and was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime. Cook also had 10 rebounds, a season-high four assists and three blocked shots.
"He's just an incredible shooter. He's probably the best big shooter in the NBA," Kobe Bryant said of the 6-foot-9 Cook, who is starting in place of the injured Lamar Odom.
Bryant scored six of his 25 points in overtime and had eight assists, including one on Cook's 3-pointer which gave the Lakers a 117-114 lead with 2:34 left in overtime.
Bryant has failed to score 30 points in six straight games, though he is still among the league leaders with 27.9 per game.
He did score 34 points in the Lakers' 106-99 home win over the Spurs on Dec. 10 in the only matchup between the teams this season. It was just Los Angeles' second win in the past 10 meetings.
San Antonio enters after having its four-game winning streak snapped with a 99-87 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
Tony Parker was limited to a season-low six points on 3-of-9 shooting as the Spurs made 39.5 percent from the field, just the second time in 23 games they were held below 40 percent.
It was the third time this season Parker, the team's second-leading scorer at 19.2 points per game, wasn't able to score in double digits. Coach Gregg Popovich denied that Parker, who missed a game just over a week ago because of a hip strain, was playing hurt.
"It would have made more sense if he was hurt. But he's fine, which is not the way he played, if you catch my drift," Popovich said.
Manu Ginobili led the team with 22 points, while Tim Duncan added 21 points and 16 rebounds.
After Wednesday's game, the Spurs host New Orleans on Friday before a stretch that includes 10 of 12 on the road.

NBA Future: Jrue Holiday
Check out Jrue Holiday, the 6-3 sophomore shooting guard from North Hollywood (Calif.) Campbell Hall, one of the elite guards in the west, regardless of class...
Jrue Holiday, the 6-3 sophomore shooting guard from North Hollywood (Calif.) Campbell Hall, is seen here in action from a CIF playoff game last week.
Jrue Holiday is #21 in white, not to be confused with his older brother, 6-6 junior Justin Holiday, who is #22.
NBA Future: DeMarcus Cousins
DeMarcus Cousins is a big PF who averaged 26 pts, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, 70% FG and 80% FT per game as a freshman in high school last year. DeMarcus Cousins has developing post moves, is an excellent rebounder, and a solid athlete. DeMarcus Cousins' ability to overpower players gives him a very high ceiling. DeMarcus Cousins has a 7'3" wingspan and 9'0" standing reach. DeMarcus Cousins is very raw. DeMarcus Cousins needs to work on his footwork and decision making mostly. DeMarcus Cousins offense is coming along fine, but he needs to become more of a leader on defense. DeMarcus Cousins consistency is also a problem against top competition.
