SEATTLE -- The black curtain that leads to the court at Bank
of America Arena flew open from the forceful shove of UCLA
guard Arron Afflalo following the Bruins 61-51 loss to
Washington on Saturday.
"That game was right there," Afflalo yelled, while
walking into the Bruins' locker room, teammates
trailing.
Loud slamming sounds and profanity could be heard from the
room until UCLA coach Ben Howland emerged from behind the
curtain and told the locker room attendant to close the
door.
Pac 10 Tournament Beyond the curtain, Washington's band played
"Celebration." Down the hall, Washington Huskies'
forward Spencer Hawes jogged to the UW locker room cheering
and pumping his fists.
It was impossible to determine which team was the Pacific-10
Conference regular-season champions and which placed
seventh. Which was ranked No. 2 in the nation and assured of
a high seed in the NCAA Tournament and which needs a minor
miracle to even reach the tournament.
It was, in many ways, an example of why the Pac-10
tournament in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, which starts Wednesday, could be
one of the most exciting ever.
"It's going to be crazy," Washington forward
Jon Brockman said.
The conference is experiencing one of its greatest seasons
in terms of parity and depth. At least five teams are
expected to reach the NCAA Tournament, and Stanford appears
to be a strong bubble team and could be the sixth selection.
This would be most since six reached the tournament in 2002.
Some question the importance of conference tournaments for
teams, such as UCLA, that have secured their futures. But it
is clear that every team in the conference has something to
prove in a conference considered by most to be one of the
top three in the country.
The UCLA Bruins left Seattle with a hole in their hearts after
losing their fourth game of the season. That's four
losses too many for team leader Afflalo, who has taken each
defeat this season as if it were an elimination game.

DeMarcus Cousins
DeMarcus Cousins is a big PF who averaged 26 pts, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, 70% FG and 80% FT per game as a freshman in high school last year. DeMarcus Cousins has developing post moves, is an excellent rebounder, and a solid athlete. DeMarcus Cousins' ability to overpower players gives him a very high ceiling. DeMarcus Cousins has a 7'3" wingspan and 9'0" standing reach. DeMarcus Cousins is very raw. DeMarcus Cousins needs to work on his footwork and decision making mostly. DeMarcus Cousins offense is coming along fine, but he needs to become more of a leader on defense. DeMarcus Cousins consistency is also a problem against top competition.

DaShonte Riley - Playing with as much length as any player at the camp, DaShonte Riley is just oozing with potential. DaShonte has a developing low post game and a jump hook, and DaShonte is aggressive defensively and on the boards. Look for big things out of DaShonte.
