Wild try to continue hot start in LA
The Minnesota Wild will try to add to their perfect start
to the season tonight, when they battle the Los Angeles Kings at the
Staples Center.
At 5-0, the Wild are the only undefeated team left in the NHL this season and
they will try to hold onto that distinction when they skate in Southern
California this evening.
With a victory tonight, Minnesota can match the franchise's best-ever start to
a season, which came last year when the Wild won their first six contests.
The Wild's latest triumph came Sunday evening in Anaheim, as Minnesota blanked
the defending Stanley Cup champions the Anaheim Ducks. Josh Harding stopped all 37 shots he
faced for his first shutout of the season and the Wild skated past the Ducks,
2-0, at the Honda Center.
Brian Rolston and Mark Parrish each scored a goal for the Wild, who have three
shutouts on the season and have given up just four total goals in five
contests so far.
Minnesota is playing the third test of a four-game road trip tonight. The
club will complete the swing Saturday evening in St. Louis.
The Kings, meanwhile, have dropped five straight games since beating Anaheim
in London, England to kick off the NHL season on September 29.
Los Angeles' most recent setback came on Sunday night against visiting
Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg each had a goal and two assists
to lead the Red Wings over the Kings, 4-1, at the Staples Center.
Mike Cammalleri scored for the Kings, while Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves for
Los Angeles.
The Kings have been outscored 26-12 during their five-game slide and six of
the team's goals came in an 8-6 loss to Boston on Friday.
Los Angeles, which was 16-16-9 as the host last year, is wrapping up a three-
game homestand tonight.
The Wild were a perfect 4-0 against the Kings last season. Minnesota has also
won in its last two trips to LA after falling in its previous four games at
the Staples Center.
